A fire took place last night (Thursday 16 October) at Grundon Waste Recycling Facility, Randall’s Road, Leatherhead. It was successfully extinguished this morning by Surrey Fire and Rescue, and we are pleased to report that nobody was injured. The recycling facility remains closed today while the extent of the fire damage is assessed.
Bin collections today
Rubbish bin collections for residents living in Mole Valley will run as usual today. The Community Recycling Centre (CRC) at Randalls Road, Leatherhead is also open.
As a result of the fire, recycling crews for Woking and Elmbridge who usually take recycling to the Grundon’s site, are being diverted elsewhere. While this is unlikely to impact recycling rounds in Woking, we have been advised that there may be some delays to recycling collections today in Elmbridge, as the standby recycling facility is based in Berkshire.
All other services across the joint contract areas are not impacted. Any roads not attended today will be visited tomorrow as the depots have crews on standby should they be required.
The recycling facility is due to open on Monday and so we do not anticipate any disruption to recycling collections next week. However, we will provide a further update next week if necessary. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause today and thank you for your patience.
