Amey has reported that due to catching up on previous work and vehicle breakdown, several waste collections were unable to complete across the district.
- Recycling collections – in some parts of Great Bookham.
- Food waste collections – in some parts of Abinger, Abinger Hammer, Fetcham, Great Bookham, Holmbury St Mary, Okewood Hill, Wallis Wood, Westcott and Wotton.
- Garden waste collections – from Friday, in parts of Dorking; from today, in some areas of Great Bookham and Little Bookham.
Please be assured that our crews are working hard to catch up. If your bin hasn’t been collected, please leave it out and crews will return as soon as they can.
Collection crews will be starting earlier than usual due to a combination of hot weather and to catch up on outstanding collections. Please ensure your bins are out by 5.30am on your collection day.
Delays and collection vehicles
Some collections are currently running behind schedule, and some bins may be collected one or two days later than planned. In some cases, delays may be considerably longer, and we apologise for the inconvenience caused.
Amey have reported a higher number of vehicle breakdowns than usual, and hot weather is placing additional strain on their hydraulics. Vehicles are being returned to service, and additional replacement vehicles are expected to come into operation next week. Alongside increased staffing, this should help improve reliability and reduce disruption.
Some roads are currently experiencing delays to waste collections as they can only be serviced by narrow access waste collection vehicles, as standard refuse collection vehicles are too large and wide to safely access them. Amey are working to catch up with missed collections but are currently constrained by the availability of these specialist vehicles.
As part of ongoing efforts to improve the service, Amey has introduced an additional narrow access collection vehicle to its fleet to support collections on narrow access roads.
If your bin has not been collected by 4pm and is not in an area affected by a known disruption, you can report it on our missed collections page.
Thank you for your patience while we work to get collections back on track.
