Waste collections returning to normal

Bin collection and delivery services in Elmbridge and Mole Valley are stabilising and returning to normal.

The delays, which started in June, were caused by a range of external factors. In Elmbridge longer tipping journeys have placed additional pressure on the service. In both Elmbridge and Mole Valley, staff shortages and vehicle issues also affected collections – the effects of which were made considerably worse by the heatwaves, something that several other areas across the country also experienced, with damage to hydraulic systems and health and safety considerations for crews working in extreme heat.

Bin collections in Mole Valley are now running close to expected service levels. In Elmbridge, following the catch-up on Saturday 5 September, the garden waste service is currently operating about one day behind schedule, compared with the more significant delays experienced over the summer when garden waste collections in the borough were deprioritised to allow resources to focus on food waste, recycling and rubbish collections. There will be another catch-up service this weekend in Elmbridge, on Saturday 12 September, and after that, the service should be restored with no garden waste bins outstanding.

We would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding during the delays. The ongoing performance of the waste collections service is being monitored closely, and residents can stay up-to-date by checking their local daily service updates page for information about waste collections in their area.
