Great news – your bins just got better! From 31 March 2026 you will be able to put more into your dry mixed recycling bin.
From 31 March, if you live in Elmbridge, Mole Valley or Woking you will be able to add aerosol cans, food and drink cartons, non-black plastic plant pots and squeezy metal and plastic tubes.
If you live in Surrey Heath, you can already recycle aerosol cans and food and drink cartons however from 31 March, you’ll be able to recycle non-black plastic plant pots and squeezy metal and plastic tubes too.
Please recycle items empty, clean and loose – not inside plastic bags or liners. Remember to rinse and dry cartons. Here’s the checklist:
- empty aerosol cans
- empty, rinse and, if possible, remove lids of cartons such as juice and soup cartons
- clean non-black plastic plant pots
- empty squeezy metal and plastic tubes, such as tomato puree and toothpaste tubes
By recycling, you’re helping to reduce waste, increase recycling rates and protect our environment. And don’t forget, Surrey’s recycling rate is the joint second highest of comparable areas in England!
The new items are being added as part of the national Simpler Recycling changes, which aim to make recycling more consistent across the country.
If you are unsure of how to dispose of any item, use the Surrey Recycles search tool for instant advice, tailored to your postcode.
